July 6, 2020Undergraduate Programme : MBBS 240
INTRODUCTION
The MBBS240 programme is an undergraduate programme offered by the Faculty of Medicine, UiTM. It is a five-year programme, which is divided into the preclinical phase for 2 years and the clinical phase for three years. The maximum duration allowed in this programme is seven years.
THE CURRICULUM
The curriculum is an integrated system-based curriculum, which draws together knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values from different subject areas to develop a powerful foundation of the medical sciences and a thorough understanding of key ideas.
Preclinical Phase (Year 1& Year 2)
In the preclinical phase, students are taught according to the body system called modules, with various departments contributing to the delivery of each module. The duration of each module varies between three to seven weeks.
There is a horizontal integration of the curriculum in the preclinical years involving six departments, which are Anatomy, Pharmacology, Biochemistry & Molecular Medicine, Physiology, Medical Microbiology & Parasitology and Public Health Medicine. Additionally, vertical integration between preclinical and clinical subjects occurs in the Early Clinical Exposure module (ECE), which is conducted throughout Year 1 and Year 2. Personal and Professional Development (PPD) is a strand which is also conducted throughout the preclinical phase so that students are more self-aware and able to improve their performance.
The modules taught in the preclinical phase are:
Year 1 | Year 2 |
---|---|
General module 1 General module 2 Musculoskeletal system Cardiovascular system Respiratory system Urinary system |
Hematopoietic & lymphatics Central nervous system Gastrointestinal system Endocrine & metabolism Reproductive system Communicable disease Electives |

Clinical Phase (Year 3, 4 and 5)
Year 3 starts with a three-week Consolidation of Basic Clinical Methods (CBCM) intended for students to reinforce their history-taking and physical examination skills. Following CBCM, students are rotated through various postings which are conducted by various clinical departments. Students are then exposed to subspecialty postings in Year 4. The duration of each posting varies between two to eight weeks. Ethics & Medical Jurisprudence is a module which is vertically integrated into Years 3 to 5.

STUDENT SELECTION
The selection of students into the MBBS240 programme is based on a few entry criteria. Apart from academic achievement, students must attend an interview, known as multiple mini-interview (MMI). The main objective of MMI is to assess the soft skills of candidates.
There are various routes to apply for the MBBS240 programme:
- Matriculation of the Ministry of Education (MoE)
- Foundation in Science from
I. Pusat Asasi UiTM
II. Pusat Asasi Sains Universiti Malaya - Diploma (UiTM only) in
I. Sciences
II. Medical Laboratory Technology
III. Pharmacy
IV. Microbiology - Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) of the Ministry of Education (MoE)
The entry requirement into MBBS240 varies according to the qualifications of candidates:

ACCOMMODATION
Medical training is tough. To help our students cope with the demanding schedule, they are required to stay in the residential colleges. The allocation of students are as follows:
- Sungai Buloh Campus: Year 1, 2, and 4
- Puncak Alam Campus: Year 3
- Selayang Campus: Year 5
- Teluk Intan Campus: Students in the clinical years during their rotations in Teluk Intan Hospital.
FACILITIES
The campuses are equipped with facilities required for optimal teaching and learning activities, such as lecture halls, seminar rooms, laboratories, clinical skill centres (in both Sungai Buloh and Puncak Alam campuses), a medical museum (in Sungai Buloh campus) and a library (in Sungai Buloh and Selayang campuses). For their clinical training, students are posted to the Al-Sultan Abdullah Hospital in Puncak Alam, Hospital Selayang, Hospital Sungai Buloh and Hospital Teluk Intan.
Besides academic facilities, there are also ample recreational spaces available for sporting and religious activities. Additionally, the Sungai Buloh Campus is well-equipped with state-of-the-art research laboratories to support research activities. Essential support services such as counselling, and health and dental services are also provided on-site. All the campuses are accessible via public transport, with the main Sungai Buloh campus also serviced by a feeder bus connecting it to the Sungai Buloh MRT station.
