Introduction
Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic, Faculty of Medicine, UiTM is one of the disciplines previously under the Medical Cluster. We are guided by our mission to obtain excellence in service, education, and research.
Patient Care: We offer various types of heart surgery services to patients by a team of surgeons led by a senior professor of cardiothoracic surgery. Our team is highly skilled and has extensive experience in cardiac surgery including bypass surgery (on pump & off-pump), valve surgery, congenital heart surgery, aortic surgery, arterial fibrillation surgery as well as minimally invasive approach surgery through endoscopic veins and harvested radial arteries.
Education and Training:The Faculty of Medicine UiTM in collaboration with Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) are offering a specialty training program that is in line with the vision, mission and goal to produce a world class standard of Cardiothoracic Surgeon in order to meet the needs of the nation. The program is designed to cater to the standard set by Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), Malaysian Qualificationn Framework (MQF) and Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
PROGRAMMES
The Faculty of Medicine UiTM in collaboration with Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) is offering a specialty training program that is in line with the vision, mission, and goal to produce a world-class standard of Cardiothoracic Surgeon in order to meet the needs of the nation. The program is designed to cater to the standards set by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF), and Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
These programs will draw on resources from both institutions. It includes clinical setup and manpower. Intensive courses, basic surgical skill workshops, and compulsory courses will be held in both Faculty of Medicine, UiTM, and IJN. For clinical rotation postings, the trainees will either be posted to UiTM Sungai Buloh, IJN, Universiti Malaya (UM), and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Other scientific meetings s/activities organized by MATCVS will be organized later accordingly.
MASTER IN SURGICAL SCIENCES {CARDIOTHORACIC) MOA/PA 13357
- Full-time coursework of 2-year
- This programme consists of 6 clinical postings which include Cardiothoracic Surgery I 8: II, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, General Surgery, and Anaesthesiology 8: Critical Care.
- This exposure will prepare the trainee with knowledge, experience, and competency to pursue advanced cardiothoracic training which is a Doctorate in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
DOCTORATE IN CARDIOTHORACIC SURGERY MOA/PA 13358

Full-time coursework of 4-year programme.

This advanced programme consists of Cardiothoracic Surgery postings that prepare the trainee with a higher level of knowledge, experience and, competency in cardiothoracic surgery.

This programme also provides an elective clinical posting (Paediatric Cardiac Surgery or Vascular 8: Endovascular Surgery) which is optional for the trainee.
