Dear all,
The Laboratory Animal Care Unit (LACU) was established in 2009 at the Sungai Buloh Campus, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
The Unit is located on the second floor of the Institute of Medical Molecular Biotechnology (IMMB).
LACU serves as a centralized facility to support researchers and postgraduate students in ensuring Good Laboratory Animal Practice.
Its primary objective is to promote the humane, ethical, and scientifically sound use of laboratory animals, in alignment with institutional and national standards.
The Unit operates in compliance with the Policy on the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, adhering to the principles outlined in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Committee on Animal Research and Ethics,
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM CARE) and the Malaysian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes.
The Committee on Animal Research and Ethics, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM CARE), chaired by Professor Dr. Mizaton Hazizul Hasan, comprises research scientists, veterinarians, and non-scientists who represent ethical and public interests in animal welfare. The Committee oversees the ethical review and approval of all animal-based studies and ensures that research activities comply with the highest standards of animal care and use.
LACU ensures that all researchers and students using the facility align their experimental activities with the ethical principles and approval procedures governed by UiTM CARE, fostering a culture of responsibility, integrity, and compassion in animal research.
LACU oversees the operational and administrative aspects of animal housing, facility maintenance, staff training, and research support.
