COORDINATOR'S MESSAGE

Dear all,
The Laboratory Animal Care Unit (LACU) was established in 2009 in the Sungai Buloh Campus of the Faculty of Medicine, UiTM.
The Unit is located on the second floor of the Institute of Medical Molecular Biotechnology.
The purpose is for good Laboratory Animal Practice to assist researchers and postgraduate students in caring for, using animals in ways judged to be scientifically, technically and humanely appropriate. LACU is also intended to assist investigators in fulfilling their obligation to plan and conduct animal experiments in accord with the highest scientific, humane, ethical principle and organized to cover all the facilities of the Unit.

The Animal Care and Use Committee of the faculty is chaired by Prof Harbindar Jeet Singh. Its members consist of research scientist, veterinarians and non-scientists representing bioethics and the public’s interest in animal welfare. 
This committee consists mainly of academic staff of the faculty who has great interest in working with rodents and rabbits.
This committee looks into the general functioning of the unit and provides recommendation for further improvement in terms of the equipment and animal welfare. 
The post graduate and research committee was set up in 2010, which mainly consists of all the current post graduates, students of the unit.
The committee is also chaired by the Director of LACU. The committee looks into the problems faced by the post graduate students in the unit.
