Initiated in 2014, the purpose of the Centre for Neuroscience Research (NeuRon) is to conduct behavioral and neurological studies as well as to examine cognitive processes that have applied implications. The facility runs experimental research projects targeting Neuroscience. The four divisions: Behavioural Studies, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Autonomic neurosciences and Neuroimaging serves to provide adequate facilities to promote postgraduate training in terms of specialization in neuroscience research. NEURON core objectives are to facilitate closer networking with scientists of similar and related interest within the faculty and the University as well as to promote external, national and international linkages.
Vision:
To carry out research in the field of neurosciences according to international standards to meet the national, regional and international standards to meet the national, regional and international demands of reducing the social and economic burden due to neurological diseases, psychiatric illnesses and blindness.
Mission:
To carry out cutting edge research in order to enhance understanding of cellular and molecular basis of disease processes in the field of neurosciences and promote development and design new drugs to target neurological, psychiatry and ophthalmic diseases.
Objectives:
1. To provide a core facility for running experimental research projects targeting Neuroscience such as:
- Behavioural Studies
- Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
- Autonomic neurosciences
- Neuroimaging
2. To provide adequate facilities to promote postgraduate training in terms of specialization in neuroscience research.
3. To facilitate closer networking with scientists of similar and related interest within the faculty and the University as well as to promote external, national and international linkages.
4. To promote initiatives for achieving new national and international patents.
5. To deliver to the community education as well as awareness on the important of health especially neuro health.
