This group is established to conduct on research related to bone and regenerative research for calcified tissue and associated disorders. This area of research is important as diseases related to bones and calcified tissue and their associated disorder are common in Malaysia such as osteoporosis and vascular calcification (advance stage of atherogenesis). Apart from that, this group has conducted research on osteosarcoma, the most common bone cancer. There is also a study on 3D culture model of osteosarcoma and the potential of nisin. In order to improve quality of life among these patients, we have investigated the effects of natural products such as black tea, green tea and phytoestrogens on osteogenesis and osteclastogenesis and hypothermia in metformin treated osteosarcoma cells and others. Among current research in this group are to study the effects of Bisphenol A (BPA) on bone mineralisation and the potential of isoflavones to overcome the effects of BPA and the ability of oxidized HDL in causing vascular calcification and osteoporosis. We would like to expand the effects of HDL dysfunction on epigenetics of atherosclerosis. This group also interested with study on metabolic diseases such as metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus. We have completed a study on effects of Pandan leaf extract in Metabolic syndrome rats.
