The Faculty

Message from the Dean

Assalamualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarakatuh

Welcome to the new website for the Faculty of Medicine, UiTM. With a simpler and cleaner look, this new website would be the main platform of communication for the faculty to the whole wide world. It would be also beneficiary for all the members of the faculty in putting themselves into the network of research as well as advancement in clinical service and medical education.

The faculty has now reached the second decade of its establishment. There have been numerous success but it has not stopped us in achieving many more. As one of the medical school in Malaysia with the biggest undergraduate intake, the faculty have been equipped and motivated in producing holistic medical graduates, through the innovation of medical edudation. This is also complemented by the great evolution of medical services that we provide. UiTM Private Specialist Centre is among one of the renowned private medical centres in Klang valley, with the state-of-the art medical services. A world class teaching hospital is in the process of building that would be the hallmark of the clinical service of the faculty. The faculty members have been very diligent in putting the name of UiTM in the arena of medical research including numerous advancement of medical innovations.

None of these successes would be achieved with the determination and valuable effort of the faculty members as well as the university. Team work is pulse of every milestones of accomplishment. Insyallah, with god’s willing, the faculty will achieve our vision.

Thank you

The History

The idea was conceived with the formation of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences on the 1st December 2002 which was located at Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The programmes offered were the Degree in Medicine and Diplomas in Environmental Health, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. On 15th March 2004, Faculty of Medicine formally formed as a standalone faculty under the leadership of the founding dean, Professor Dato' Dr. Khalid Yusoff, currently the President and Vice Chancellor of UCSI University.

The first intake of 20 medical students was admitted in June 2003 and they graduated in April 2008. The number of student intake has grown over the years. By 2011, the faculty has grown impressively and our current number of student intake is around 250 per year.In the beginning, the faculty of Medicine administration office was established temporarily on the 20th floor, Tower 1, Science and Technology building in the Shah Alam campus. Shah Alam is the main UiTM campus. It is a well established institution with good infrastructure, easy access roads and public transport. The faculty managed to secure a few more floors sharing within the Engineering Complex, which consist of dissection hall, anatomy resource centre, computer and multidisciplinary laboratories.

In 2010, the undergraduate year 4 & 5 administrative staff and students moved to the new Selayang campus. The keys to the Selayang campus were officially handed to our faculty on the 21st January 2010. Year 3 students and research activities moved to Sungai Buloh campus. However, pre-clinical teaching was still conducted at Shah Alam. The pre-clinical teaching involves anatomy, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, pharmacology and general pathology lectures and seminars. The early clinical exposure (ECE) teaching for pre-clinical students was also conducted at Shah Alam. The clinical students are mainly attached to Selayang Hospital, Sungai Buloh Hospital and Hospital Teluk Intan. They also attend government health clinics including Taman Ehsan health clinic and Sungai Buloh health clinic for community health and primary care posting.

The faculty then acquired another several acres of land in proximity to Hospital Sungai Buloh to build the main campus. Sungai Buloh campus was completed in 2012 and all the administrative and academic staff has moved from Shah Alam to Sungai Buloh. Teaching and classes of the pre-clinical as well as the clinical years then commenced at Sungai Buloh campus. Apart from the teaching facilities, the faculty also developed its own clinical services. In the beginning, The Specialist Clinic in Selayang Campus open to the public. After that The Clinical Training Centre (CTC) then commenced its clinic as well as other in patient services for the communities in Sungai Buloh. In 2016 it was formalized into UiTM Medical Specialist Centre (PPUiTM). Our specialist centres offer services in cardiology, respiratory, gastroenterology, general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, rehabilitation medicine, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, dermatology and primary care services.

The faculty now is in building its own teaching hospital in Puncak Alam, expected to complete by 2021
