WHAT IS FULL LUNG FUNCTION TEST?
Lung Function Test (Pulmonary Function Test) is performed to evaluate how well your lungs work. The test can help to diagnose a lung disease, measure the severity of the lung disease, and check to see how well treatment for a lung disease is working. This test divided into 3 types:
|1.||Spirometry with or without Bronchodilator|
|2.||DLCO (Diffusion Lung Carbon Dioxide)|
|3.||Body Plethysmography (Lung Volume)|
Before the test please DO NOT:
|1.||Take your nebuliser on the day of the test.|
|2.||Take long acting bronchodilator drug (such as Formoterol, Serevent, Symbicort, Foradale & Spiriva) for 24 hours.|
|3.||Take short acting bronchodilator drug (such as Ventolin, Atrovent, Combivent) for 4 hours.|
|4.||Smoke for 24 hours prior to the test.|
|5.||Consume alcohol for at least 4 hours.|
|6.||Do any vigorous exercise for at least 30 minutes prior to the test.|
|7.||Eat heavy meal at least 2 hours prior to the test.|

These procedures are fairly simple and you will need to perform 3 best blowing test. They measure how much air can go inside your lung and how much oxygen goes from your lungs into your blood and lung size.
If you do a simple Spirometry it will take about 10 minutes but a Full Lung Function Test will take approximately 1 hour to complete. These test may be repeated at a later date to measure improvement after treatment.
What happen after the test?
The result will be sent to the doctor and the doctor will discuss about the result with you at your next appointment.
